I started this painting a little bit ago for my good friend Mollie, and i finally had time to finish it. I am working on two smaller pieces to go with it, but this is the finished product of the main painting.

Edible Books--Where the Wild Things Are

I always see flyers, and hear things about edible book contests, and I never thought hey i should enter something in one of those. But recently my good friend Dawn told me that the library she is working at was having their first annual edible book contest, and she told me I should def. submit a cake. At first i was a little hesitant to do something just because I know how time consuming it is, but i decided to enter anyway after much peer pressure. So here are photos of my crowd favorite winner Where the Wild Things Are cake.

I was very happy with the way it turned out, and I am glad I participated.

Lego Star Wars & Girly Cake

Here are the pictures finally of the lego star wars cake, and the Girly cake i made for my cousin's birthdays.
These pics are all the Star wars characters I made out of fondant, and gum paste.

Pictures of the girls birthday cake. Cake flavor was triple chocolate fudge, and the icing was a caramel buttercream. The end result was delicious.

Cousins and cakes!

So this week I will be working on two cakes that I am pretty excited about. I sketched out general ideas for both. One is for my two little boy cousins who love Star Wars, so naturally lego star wars was the first thing that popped into my head. My general vision for this cake is to have the cake be shaped like a lego block, with a smaller one on top. The Star Wars logo on one of the legos and then of course fondant/gum paste lego men in the shape of the characters, complete with light sabers!

The second cake is for my 4 girl cousins. They told me they wanted something really girly, but fun and cute. Ok, so right away I think a pink or purple cake with zebra striping on the side, and maybe roses or a bow on top? Complete of course with lots of cake sparkles and possibly some luster dust.

Photos of those cakes should be up sometime after next weekend.

In the meantime, if you have some extra time on your hands, check out my good friend Lauren's website Dolce Designs. http://dolcedesigns.wordpress.com/ She is currently taking classes at The French Culinary institute in New york, and she has some sick skills without the classes, and the classes are just taking her skill level above and beyond. She is awesome.

Fondant Roses

Tonight I decided I would try out making some fondant roses. I have a group birthday cake I am supposed to make in the next month, and I can't decide whether or not to do two cakes or just one sheet cake. But it got me thinking, if I am going to do a cake for the boys and one for the girls then i might as well practice some girly stuff.

So... here is my first ever attempt at fondant roses.

Decided to throw some color into the mix.

"CakeBook"

I really want to buy my boyfriend Tim a new MacBook because he has had his now for about four years, and it's the old white one, and it's kind of falling apart. The screen has been weird for a little bit where it won't come on when he opens the laptop, and recently he cracked the screen a little bit. So he really is in need of getting it fixed or getting a new one... unfortunately right now I can't afford to be getting laptops for birthdays. (however I did get him a really sweet Bose ipod speaker) So while I couldn't get the new laptop, i figured it would be just as good made out of cake... (it's the thought that counts.)

This picture shows the cake not quite finished but in the MacBook box. I had to make sure it would fit.

A little side view of the cake, this is where the charger, any usb cables, and headphones would be plugged in.

Another top view of the cake out of the box.

This view is the cake in the box with the litle ipod I made to go with it. Not exactly thrilled with how the Ipod came out, but I was rushed because I made this cake entirely in one day, and the little ipod itself is a mini cake. But I still think it looks cute.

Close up detail of the ipod.

The happy birthday boy with his cake (we put all the number candles we could find on the cake because our number 2 candle went missing...)

Tim and the finished product in the "cake box" aka.. the box my laptop came in.

One last shot of the cake in the box.

The cake was just a yellow cake, with Butterscotch Buttercream icing, and covered in fondant.

Dave Matthews Band Birthday Cake

My friend Jenna asked me to make a cake for her boyfriend Brian as a surprise. His favorite band is Dave Matthews Band, thus the DMB cake. The cake flavor is strawberry, and the icing is buttercream with fondant on top.

frosting and covering the cake with marble fondant..

One of the cake decorations, I made this guitar to resemble Dave's acoustic guitar. It's made out of cake and buttercream icing, then covered with fondant, and hand painted.

Dave Matthew's "fire dancer" logo.

Sax, Guitar and Violin. Sax and Violin made out of Rice Krispy treats, buttercream, and fondant.

Almost done...
